What is WPC decking?

WPC decking (wood–plastic composite decking) is an outdoor flooring board made by combining wood fibre or wood flour with plastic resins and additives, then extruding the mix into planks. The aim is a timber-like surface that resists rot and termites better than many untreated woods, without the same oiling schedule hardwood decks demand in Singapore’s climate.

How WPC boards are made

Manufacturers dry and blend wood flour with polymers such as HDPE or polypropylene, add pigments and stabilisers, then extrude profiles through dies. Hollow boards include internal chambers that reduce weight; solid boards are denser and often preferred for heavier traffic or wetter zones like pool surrounds. After extrusion, boards may receive embossing for grain texture and end-sealing guidance for cut edges.

Capped (co-extruded) vs uncapped

Uncapped boards expose the composite mix at the walking surface. They can be more affordable and still work in covered or low-stain settings, but they generally mark and fade faster outdoors.
